Electronica / Glitch / Noise / Ambient
comment by the artist:
"In 2005 I was offered to compose a piece of music for symphonic orchestra
and a laptop computer. Since we haven’t got much of a tradition for that
kind of compositions (combining a symphonic orchestra with a laptop or acoustic
with electronics), I gave decided to try to realize this idea through a more
traditional genre of a concerto. While considering how I could combine these
two mediums, I had an idea that for the electronic part I could use the sound
that is produced when you open any Windows system files. The sound of opening
a file is quite distinct and sharpish and would make a base for a ‘white
noise’ and the symphonic orchestra would be employed to perform more usual
and traditional role by produce a tune, a rhythm harmony and so on. So the WS
files and the sound from them I processed by utilizing “max/msp’
software program and a newly produced sound then further processed with the
software program “Reactor 4”. That resulted in some in my opinion
quite interesting rhythmic patterns that I decided to use for this new work
which I called A LINE and where I had two very distinct sound formations, a
pure electronic one and the usual acoustic sound of an orchestra. This in turn
gave me a freedom to pursue the purity of sound in a digital space as well as
clarity of the form and the content. And so it was. I was sitting on the shore
by the sea, the sun was heating and the wind was blowing, and I had my laptop
which with the help of digital sound modeling programs was creating although
somewhat romantic yet completely different sounds from those around me, and
was producing completely different LINES than they would’ve been for the
symphonic orchestra. Audio LINES that I had in my headphones were sharply contrasting
from visual experiences of nature. PS :a symphonic piece called TITLE 0/1 will
be performed in October at the music festival GAIDA
2006 in Vilnius."
